Jonathan Bruce is a Partner in the Shipping/Marine Insurance Group.
Jonathan graduated from Oxford University, then qualified as a solicitor in September 1997, joining Elbornes and becoming a Partner in 2006 having spent 10 years at another major City insurance/shipping firm.
Jonathan specialises in marine and energy insurance/reinsurance, as well as shipping, international trade disputes and aviation insurance. He acts mainly for insurers, reinsurers, energy companies, shipowners, P&I, charterers, container leasing companies and traders.
Jonathan acts in marine claims arising from losses worldwide, including groundings/collision, salvage/towage, GA, insolvency, defective bunkers etc., including recovery/defence and coverage issues. He also acts in charterparty, Bills of Lading, and ship repair disputes, and advises on commercial shipping/trading contracts. On the non-marine side, he acts in coverage and subrogation claims involving property and business interruption, pipeline damage, general liability claims, builders’ risks/CAR, and DSU, in both onshore and offshore energy, and extending to the power, mining, and industrial sectors. His aviation experience relates mainly to helicopter and GA losses, usually in Latin America.
He speaks fluent Portuguese (having lived in Brazil) as well as Spanish and French.
Jonathan lives in North London. He has a keen interest in football (he is an FA qualified referee), tennis, climbing, skiing, travel and, on rare occasions, good food and fine wines.
